Sculpture, Introduction to

ART 145
Description: A studio course emphasizing traditional and contemporary approaches to sculpture. Covers the varying physical properties of materials (wood, metal, clay, plaster) and explores several methods of fabrication (carving, casting, modeling, modular construction). Emphasizes ingenuity of invention and recognition of the evolutionary process involved in developing sculpture ideas. Students use sculpture as an expressive medium, capable of enlarging awareness of his or her private perception while expanding an appreciation of the surrounding physical world.
