Description: Is democracy viable as a political institution? What are the challenges to democracy in the twenty-first century? By investigating the theories and practices of democracy, by indentifying and exploring the economic, social, cultural, and political challenges faced by democracies, and by analyzing contemporary democratic systems and movements, students will assess the viability of democracy in the twenty-first century.
