Navigating the U.S. Healthcare System

Description: Students will learn about the U.S. health care system, including: the federal government's role, health industry management, cost and quality issues, managed care, reimbursement mechanisms, legal and regulatory issues, profit vs. non-profit care, the role of technology and technology assessment. A major emphasis of the course is on analyzing role/value/barriers to process improvement and using information technology as a tool. Students will relate process improvement needs to the development, implementation and management of information systems.
