Navigating the U.S. Healthcare System

Description: Students learn about the U.S. health care system, including the federal government's role, health industry management, cost and quality issues, managed care, reimbursement mechanisms, legal and regulatory issues, profit vs. non-profit care, the role of technology and technology assessment. A major emphasis of the course is on analyzing role/value/barriers to process improvement and using information technology as a tool. Students relate process improvement needs to the development, implementation and management of health care systems.
