Description: Students read and discuss 70+ children's picture books, studying the history, business, and importance of children's literature, including learning how to collaborate with a future team that includes illustrator, editor, and art director. They examine literary and poetic devices as effective tools for this short form, analyze the interplay of images and words; write three picture books, one book review, and two essays. Learning to write in this genre informs other short-form genres such as poetry and screenwriting.
